We are a UC Davis student-run organization that aims to provide those who experience homelessness and the low income population in Davis with the knowledge and resources to improve their quality of life in a sustainable way. Our mission is to dispel stigmas against homelessness through community support and individual empowerment. We achieve this by organizing workshops and projects that address health and hygiene, educational opportunities and professional development.
Why Our Mission is Important
Poverty is a growing problem in the United States. According to recent investigation by the Census Bureau, about 15% of Americans are living in poverty, about 45 million. Within Davis, 28.8% of people live in poverty. Additionally, about 17%, or 52 million Americans are living without health insurance, accounting for approximately 26,000 preventable deaths in our country each year.
Many of these people just need a little help to get moving in the right direction. By providing education and preventing illness, we can foster an environment in which homeless and low income families in Davis can work towards better lives and bigger dreams.
