On Monday, June 2nd, the four members of the H.O.P.E. team gathered to do a presentation at the Transitional Housing Center about women's health and when to go to the ER. This week's topics were requested by the people in the Transitional Housing Center themselves.
The H.O.P.E. Team started out by discusses 13 different forms of birth control, with information on how this birth control is used, how often it fails, and how expensive it is. To follow up, the team included information about what clinics in the area that will work with people without insurance to provide these forms of birth control. Additionally, the team included some information on what causes birth control to work, and of course, what causes it to fail, such as taking anti-biotics concurrently with hormonal birth control. In a short, unrelated segment, the H.O.P.E. team gave a brief talk describing what sorts of things are worth going to the ER for and what things are not. For things that aren't ER-worthy, the team provided various other places to receive care with different urgencies such as Urgent Care, walk-in doctor's offices, and pharmacies. At the end, the H.O.P.E. team asked a few friendly quiz questions about both topics with good results from their listeners.
